The Marine, a CQB expert, he's not

If some of you have been having a bit of an easy life with the Colonial Marine in the multilayer demo of Rebellion's upcoming Aliens vs Predator, then the developers have just released a trailer that will get your feet back on the ground. The newly released Close Combat Techniques trailer is a short video tutorial that handles up-close-and-personal fights in the game, and, while the Marine is present as well in there, the big match is mostly between the Predator and the Alien.

And, by all rules of the AvP universe, as well as the one of common sense, it is how it should be, since not only is the Marine compellingly overpowered in hand-to-hand combat by both of the alien species, but also because God gave the Marine a pulse rifle for a reason.

First of all, all that the Marine can do in close combat is defend himself, and, at times, manage a counterattack, but even this is a bit of a stretch. The video shows the Marine blocking a wrist-blade attack with his bare hands, which is a bit of a sci-fi thing to do, but we'll accept it for the sake of game balance. From here on out, it really is an Aliens vs Predator showdown, with the two races battling it out until the end.

In quick successions of light attacks, blocks and heavy attacks, both the xenomorph and the Predator can pull off some special moves, like counter attacks and heavy counter attacks. The Alien has its heavy counter attack detailed while fighting a Predator, while the video shows that it's enough for a simple counterattack to turn the tide of the battle, leaving the Predator on top of the fight. Last, but most definitely not least, the video shows off the basic guide to stealth kills, for both of the alien races, and it's a bit disappointing to see that the Marine isn't included. A human could successfully sneak up on a Predator, or even on a xenomorph, in multiplayer. After all, people go AFK all the time.

You can view the trailer below, but, if you're a PC gamer, focus on the text in the tool tips, not on the visuals, since it uses a controller as a guide interface.
