A few months ago, Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion announced the upcoming release of a new version of its mobile operating system, namely BlackBerry OS 7, a great successor for last year's BlackBerry 6.1 OS, and some more handsets running under it might make an official appearance as soon as today.

RIM was expected to make these phones official at the BlackBerry World event, but only one smartphone made it to the spotlight at that time, the BlackBerry Bold 9900.

As soon as today, things might change, as at least one new BlackBerry smartphone is expected to be unveiled, according to what RIM suggests both on its Facebook page, as well as on Twitter.

“Hey Team BlackBerry, what's shiny, new and social all over? We want to tell you all about it. Can you guess what it might be? Tune in tomorrow for details,” the company notes on Facebook.

“You got it! New BlackBerry devices are coming w/ our new OS, BlackBerry 7! Check back tmrw 4 deets on BB7FanNight,” the Twitter announcement reads.

While nothing leaked on the handset(s) that might be unveiled today, there are some devices that might prove worthy candidates for the launch.

Among them, we can count the recently spotted BlackBerry 9810 Torch 2 and the BlackBerry 9860 Touch, which have just emerged in a leaked press photo.

Moreover, the 9860 smartphone, featuring the codename of Monza, also emerged in a series of other photos at Engadget, and was rumored to be on its way to the airwaves of wireless carriers AT&T and/or T-Mobile in the United States.

The handset reportedly sports support for HSPA+ networks, which would make it a great option for end-users looking for speed, especially since it also comes with a fast 1.2GHz application processor inside, rumor has it.

In addition to the two, there is also the possibility that RIM would unveil the BlackBerry Bold 9790 that has made it in a series of leaked video tutorials only recently.
