Canadian mobile phone maker Research in Motion is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new flavor of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, namely version 6.1, which should come with a series of welcomed enhancements. No official confirmation on this emerged for the time being, but rumor has it that it might not be too long before the application becomes available for download.

Some of the main features it would sport include a series of improvements and modifications brought to the desktop application, such as the possibility to remove a previously backed up / synced device.

Moreover, the software would include support for new, upcoming BlackBerry mobile phones from RIM, which should be released under the BlackBerry OS 6.1.

Details on the availability of these handsets lack as well, but RIM promised not too long ago that they might become available in the not too far future.

Moreover, the company also confirmed plans to release a new, highly appealing BlackBerry OS 6.1 at that time.

Last year, the company came to the market with the BlackBerry OS 6, with a revamped interface and a wide range of enhancements packed inside, such as universal search, a new browser, and the like, and it seems that the new 6.1 flavor of the OS would continue the tradition.

The new OS flavor is expected to arrive as an overhaul, and not as an incremental update. However, it would mark a major change from the existing version of the OS, it seems.

However, specific info on the matter did not emerge for the time being, nor on the BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.1, which should complement the said operating system upgrade.

As stated above, it should not be too long before RIM unveils more on the desktop application but, until that happens, you can have a look at some screenshots with the application, which emerged courtesy of BGR.
