A quick look at Tron: Evolution

Disney will continue the story of cult classic Tron later this month through Tron: Legacy, so what better way to celebrate the new movie than with a tie-in game, manufactured by Propaganda Games.

As such, Tron: Evolution has been revealed, a third person action adventure title with an emphasis on platforming, in the vein of classic titles like Prince of Persia, among others.

Seeing as how its story is a prequel to the events in the upcoming Tron: Legacy movie, Tron: Evolution appears like a must-play for fans of the beloved franchise.

It is any good or should the game be derezzed into oblivion? Let's have a quick look.

The opening cinematic for Tron: Evolution is top notch, as Disney once again proves its CGI worth, but the graphics of the actual game aren't all that impressive.

Still, props must be given because it stays true to the universe of the Grid, recreating many of the same sights we saw back in the original Tron movie, as well as in trailers for Legacy.

Sadly, the gameplay doesn't really stand out, largely due to the horrendous camera that wobbles about all the time, even if you set it on the lowest sensitivity.

The platforming, as a result, is severely flawed, even if the level design is pretty interesting, and allows players to enter a groove, which, sadly, is broken by one sudden jolt of the camera.

The fighting is pretty good, as you can use your disc against enemies in order to derezz them, and can string together combos.

You can join together disc throws and melee attacks, resulting in great damage to your enemies, but most of the times the combos will be broken, by the camera as well as the dodgy auto targeting system, which sends your disc into wayward directions.

The story, especially for those not all that familiar with the Tron universe, it is pretty complicated.

You play the role of a special system monitor, who must uncover a grave plot in the world of the Grid, before its inhabitants capture and kill off Flynn, played by Jeff Bridges.

Up until now, Tron: Evolution seems like a really unfortunate experiment, but I hope it will redeem itself before the end.
