Is Radian Games' newest twin-stick shooter a success or just a pretty waste of time?

Inferno+ is a twin-stick shooter with a top down perspective, one of the newest titles made by Radian Games, which tasks players with guiding a ship through a variety of levels filled with obstacles, enemies and all sorts of dangers.

We decided to try out Inferno+ and see if it’s worth your time or if it just deserves to perish in its virtual flames.

Inferno+ follows the same practice of ‘gameplay over story’ from previous titles made by Radian Games, like Super Crossfire, dumping you straight into the action, after selecting what type of ship you want to use. These ships differ in shape and equipment, as some have different weapons, while others sport multiple shield types.

After this, you’re sent straight into the first level, which can be quite hard in case you’re familiar with twin-stick shooters. Fortunately, if you’ve already tried previous Radian titles, like Ballistic, you’ll pretty much feel right at home.

Throughout levels you’ll find gold, which can be used to upgrade your ship through a surprisingly large level up mechanic, as well as other goodies, like small drones that hover around you and shoot enemies.

Opponents are also quite varied, ranging from normal turrets that shoot at you, to spawning pits that output a huge amount of small blobs that kill you once they touch your ship. Fortunately, you have multiple lives and can pick up extra, if you find them through the level.

Things get progressively harder, however, so you’ll soon have to apply upgrades and diversify your strategy depending on the enemies and obstacles you encounter, if you want to stay alive.
