QNAP Systems, an important manufacturer of NAS (Network Attached Storage) servers recently released the beta version of QMobile application for Android. The software is one of the first multimedia player solution for Android, as it allows users to stream music, digital pictures, and videos from their QNAP NAS servers and play directly on their Android handsets from anywhere. Even though the QMobile requires Internet access, this is still an interesting application as you can play all your media material remotely.

"We are pleased to announce QMobile application as the first multimedia app for the connection between NAS and Android devices. For now, both iPhone and Android users can have fun with their mobile device and QNAP NAS," said James Wu, Product Manager of QNAP Systems, Inc.

The application only targets users who own a QNAP Turbo NAS (Network Attached Storage). Otherwise you won't be able to enjoy the pleasures of watching your entire media collections on the move, or share it with your friends. The latest version of NAS management software update (required to use QMobile) can be downloaded from the developer's website.

Some of the key features of the application include: Media Center (Browse and play the multimedia files saved in the NAS), My Jukebox (View and play the songs in the NAS. Browse by playlist, album, artist or title), Upload Photos (Upload your photos to the NAS and publish it instantly on the web), My Favorites (Save your favorite media files in your iPhone/iPod Touch and play it offline; it also provides auto-synchronization feature upon every connection).

"Users no longer need to be concerned about synchronizing the multimedia contents to the mobile device. They can save storage space of the mobile device and get a compelling user experience with QMobile," James Wu added.

QMobile is compatible with Android 1.5/1.6/2.1 platforms, and needs to be used with a QNAP NAS server running V3.3.0 management software or above. QMobile is free and can be downloaded starting this week from Android market. An iPhone compatible version is also available from AppStore.
