Aerial jumps, tricks and stunning visuals are this game's weapons

How many times have you heard game developers promising that their game will be the one that will re-define a particular genre? I know I've heard a lot of promises and most of them were nothing but dust in the wind. But, since you can't judge a book by its cover and a game by its screenshot (it looks incredibly well, we must admit), we can only let time decide if Pure will set some new landmarks or it will be just "another racing game".

Developed by Black Rock Studio, Disney Interactive's property, Pure is an extreme sports and off-road, quad racing video game targeted for release in Autumn 2008. Players will be able to perform gravity-defying aerial tricks in their race for glory against skilled rivals and, probably, against all the odds. Players can also choose between female and male characters to represent them in the virtual world, either offline or online, against up to 16 other players.

"We expect Pure to set a new standard for off-road racing that delivers adrenaline-inducing vertical experiences with spectacular aerial tricks and intense wheel-to-wheel racing," said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. "Pure will appeal to a wide audience based on the game's jaw-dropping aerial tricks, breakneck racing and vast environments."

Black Rock's game is also being guided through its development process by Wes Miller, pro rider and the founder of H-Bomb Films - known for some incredible, real life stunts. Miller has been involved with development to assure the game adheres to the quad culture and authenticity but still allows creative liberties. A bit of fantasy can never go wrong, right?

Pure will be available sometime during this Autumn for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles, as well as PC systems.
