Puget Systems, a company well known for its silent custom made desktops and HTPCs, recently announced it has expanded its business into the server market with the introduction of the Summit series of systems, available in both rackmount and tower configurations.

Puget's lineup of Summit Rackmout servers is comprised of various 2U, 3U and 4U solutions, including single or dual socket motherboards, designed to run Intel Xeon E3 or 5600 series processors.

The single socket 2U and 3U options are low power, and extremely shallow depth at less than 17.5 inches (44.5cm), while the dual socket 4U option allows up to 14TB storage and 12 CPU cores.

Moving to the Summit Tower series of servers, these were built to target the small business sector and the single socket version is housed in a case just 17 inches (42cm) tall, designed to operate cool and silent when a server room is not available.

The dual-socket tower improves on the functionality of its smaller brother by adding redundant power supplies and up to 5 PCI-E expansion cards, as well as support for a legacy PCI card. Puget's Tower systems are powered by Intel E3 or E5 series Xeon processors.

"Puget Systems has an excellent reputation for quality and performance," said Jon Bach, president of Puget Systems.

"We have built our business around ensuring that quality, and the server space will allow us to expand on those strengths and push that bar even higher."

Bach also added that all of the company's Summit servers are optimized for the VMWare vSphere platform.

“We spent the last 6 months moving our entire internal infrastructure to run under VMware. Of course, we're running on our own Summit platform. We didn't feel we could be an authority with anything less."

Puget's Summit Series of servers is already available for purchase from the company's website. Pricing for the single processor midi-tower S1 starts at $1231.81 (898 Euros), while the dual-socket S2 at $2935.65 (2143 Euros). Pricing for the rackable servers starts at $1299 (948 Euro). Both server series can be fully customized upon request.
