Harmonix and MTV Games are bent on promoting their music game franchise, Rock Band, by any means possible and keep it in the public spotlight with various announcements and features. After releasing this week the lists of DLC songs that will appear for all of the consoles on which their titles are present, the two companies have struck a partnership with Paramount Studios in order to cross-promote the games and the upcoming Star Trek movie.

What seemed like an April Fools’ joke is now completely true, as the companies involved announced the “first-of-its-kind collaboration” between Rock Band and the Star Trek motion picture. It will consist of a 15-day sweepstakes at first, to which the registration process is already open, and which will give winners 500 DLC songs from the Rock band music store each day, from April 7 to April 21, on both the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store.

The second stage of the promotion features a special Battle of the Bands contest, where players will have to fire up Rock Band 2's online mode and enter the Star Trek Ultimate Battle. There they will play against other people and the best band will win tickets to a movie screening in their hometown for them and their friends and families. Also, players who participate in this stage will see 20 of them randomly selected to receive a pack of Rock Band and Star Trek gear.

Last but not least, this promotion will also release the first avatar creation contest, as players will need to create their own futuristic avatar and export it to the RockBand.com website, where a panel of judges from Harmonix will reward the best creation with “The Future is Now prize pack including the top of the line Rock Band game accessories.”

All in all, this is a great opportunity for the big number of Star Trek fans to combine two of their favorite hobbies and try to win tickets to what will be one of this season's most expected blockbusters.
