The development team at Obsidian working on Project Eternity is ready to offer more details on the classes that will be part of the game, after spending the previous few weeks talking about the progress of the game and vertical slice creation.

Josh Sawyer, the project director on the party-based role-playing game, says that Paladins are one of the core classes of the experience, quickly funded by the fan community.

He writes on the official forums that, “They have persistent modal auras, strong single-target healing and buff abilities (contrasting the broad AoE effects of clerics), and can passively grant bonuses to teammates in close proximity.”

This makes them capable fighters who can also make an entire group better as long as it sticks together.

Sawyer says that the main inspirations were the marshal class from Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 and the warlord in the Fourth Edition.

Paladins are not faith based but they fight for a cause that can be philosophical, cultural or religious, putting it ahead of their own interests and safety.

Starting abilities for Paladins include: Reviving Exhortation, Zealous Barrage, Faith and Conviction.

As Project Eternity progresses, they also get access to: Coordinated Attacks, Inspiring Triumphs, Zealous March, Shake It Off.

Sawyer adds, “While several other classes have Stamina healing abilities, the paladin's Reviving Exhortation can turn the tide if party members start dropping late in a battle. However, using it too early can spell disaster for the revived character if the granted Stamina boost runs out in a long fight.”

Obsidian plans to further test the class and see how it can be improved.

The team is also offering fans of Project Eternity a look at wild orlans.

Players will be able to find them in the deepest forests of Eir Glanfath and are considered savage by most other races.

Obsidian is encouraging players to offer feedback on the paladin class.
