An extra was injured on the set of the third “Transformers” film in what the Indiana State Police describe as a car stunt gone terribly awry. The woman reportedly remains in critical condition.

Shooting for the third film is now heavily underway, as fans must know. Just like the other two films, this one too will be packed with action and explosive scenes, in typical Michael Bay fashion.

The other day, a crew of stuntmen were shooting a scene involving several vehicles when a tow cable snapped and sliced through a car, injuring the driver, E! Online informs, citing ongoing reports.

Production on the film has been halted indeterminately, with the incident believed to affect even the shooting schedule for the next few days at the very least.

“According to the Indiana State Police, the woman, who was not part of the stunt team was behind the wheel of a car when an object smashed through her windshield,” E! writes.

“Her car in turn plowed into a median barrier wall and continued on about a mile before coming to a halt,” the publication further says.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that shortly before 7 p.m, the movie crew was filming a stunt using numerous vehicles and driver. During this stunt, an object struck a 2006 Toyota, hitting the vehicle, and then went through the windshield hitting the driver,” police say.

The woman was rushed to the Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., in a helicopter and, while hospital employees refuse to discuss her condition, rumor says it remains critical.

She is believed to be Gabriela Cedillo, 24, with other extras telling various media outlets that the object that smashed through her windshield was a cable that was towing her car.

“The vehicle was being towed by another vehicle. The cable between the two vehicles broke. It whipped around and sliced through the woman’s car and sliced through her skull, apparently,” an eyewitness says for an ABC affiliate, as cited by E!

Police have launched an investigation into the accident. The tow cable in question has been impounded for probing.
