Following the official debut of AMD's fastest graphics card to date, the much-anticipated Radeon HD 5970, the company's AIB partners have been given the green light to announce their versions of the latest GPU. Such is the case with MSI, which was among the first graphics card makers to announce the new Radeon HD 5970. However, Powercolor quickly followed through with its official announcement of its HD5970, a card that is based on the reference model, launched by AMD today.

“The PowerColor HD5970 aims to fulfill all the most demanding game titles for the toughest hardcore gamers,” says Ted Chen, CEO of TUL Corporation. “All gamers should be excited about the announcement of the fastest graphics solution ever.”

As you have probably already found out, the new Radeon HD 5970 has been built with 3200 stream processing units, combined to deliver approximately 5 terFLOPS of computer power ( 4.64 TeraFLOPS, more precisely). The card combines two 40nm Radeon GPUs that have been clocked at 725MHz and coupled with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, working at 1000MHz. (4.0Gbps data rate). In addition, the card's power specifications, include a maximum of 295 watts and an idle of 42 watts.

PowerColor's model is essentially based on AMD's reference design, but comes with the graphics card maker sticker. This means that you'll be able to enjoy the same features on AMD's latest generation of cards, including the support for ATI Eyefinity, Microsoft's DirectX 11 and built-in HDMI and 7.1 surround sound and UVD2. All of these are put together in a card that might raise some problems when trying to install it in a standard ATX card, due to its physical specifications.

Unfortunately, the company hasn't made any announcements regarding the pricing and availability details of the new device, but you can expect it to be priced at around US$599, considering that this is the MSRP announced by AMD.
