Manipulate a game and win your girl with PopCap

You probably remember the story we posted a while ago about Bernie Peng who created from scratch, for the Nintendo DS, a version of Bejeweled, his girlfriend's favorite game, to propose - and the girl, Tammy Li, said yes. It seems that the couple is doing great and even greater things are coming to them, since PopCap Games, the creators of the original Bejeweled game, decided it's time for them to say hello.

Unlike the reactions that usually arise when piracy is involved (even though this is definitely not the case, we could say that Bernie somehow pirated the game to create his own), PopCap was really happy to hear the story. Actually, they were so happy that they're going to fly the couple to Seattle as part of their honeymoon and, even more, the company is supplying copies of the game to hand out as favors to the wedding guests.

"Most video game companies would frown on people manipulating their games," said Garth Chouteau, a spokesman for PopCap. "But it won him a woman. As a bunch of geeks we have to say, 'Bernie, hats off to you.'"

Indeed, this nerdy proposal is probably one of the best we've heard recently, since parks, live TV or baseball games are SO outdated! Creating a game from scratch (it took Bernie a few weeks to do it right) just to offer a sweet surprise to your loved one is super cool. Probably those who people who have nothing to do with games would consider this a waste of time or something that doesn't even worths mentioning, but the truth is that they just can't understand the whole story. Because they have never seen the final scene of the game and they don't know the happiness that invades your soul when you manage to finish a hit game. Just imagine what feeling you'd get if that final screen would say, instead of "Game over", "Spend your entire life with me!". Signed: the person you love the most.

These being told, we've got nothing else to do than to wish for Bernie and Tammy to live a happy life together and to congratulate PopCap for their sweet decision. It's a lot of marketing involved, we know, but at least it is great.
