It hasn't passed that much time since we reported that PocketBook was getting ready to showcase no one, but six different eReader devices during CES 2011, the PocketBook Pro 602 being the first of these to reach the retail market as it is now listed for $199 on Amazon.com.

Based on a Linux operating system, this eReader comes with a 6-inch e-Ink screen and is compatible with a wide range of eBook file formats, including EPUB DRM, PDF DRM, EPUB, PDF, PRC, CHM and DOC to name just a few.

Furthermore, this is compatible with eBooks written in 20 major world languages, PocketBook promising to update this list as time passes by via future firmware releases.

On the hardware side of things, the Pro 602 is built using a 533 MHz processor and 256MB of RAM memory, the 6-inch screen coming with a 800x600 resolution that is more than adequate for reading.

Compared to the regular version, the Pro comes with a touchscreen display and stylus, allowing users to take notes and highlight text for future reference.

Other features include built-in 802.11 b/g WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, 3GB internal storage space, a micro-USB port, a micro-SD card slot as well as a G-sensor and two 0.5W speakers, the battery life being estimated at about 14,000 page flips.

As far as digital books go, the Pro 602 comes bundled with a thousand free books, more than 30,000 titles in 59 languages being available to download for free from BookLand.net, the website also offering a wide range of paid titles, to form quite a comprehensive collection.

According to e-reader-info, the PocketBook Pro 602 is available right now for purchase on Amazon.com, the price being set at $199.99, making this significantly more expensive than the Kindle, that can be bought for as low as $139 (WiFi only version).
