After the NPD numbers regarding North America arrived on Friday, showing that Nintendo is still dominating the hardware charts while Metal Gear Solid 5 managed to almost double the sales of the PlayStation 3 consoles, Media Create is releasing numbers regarding the Japanese hardware and software markets, revealing how the major gaming platforms perform in the country.

The PlayStation Portable haws remained on top in the hardware charts, with sales more than static at around 56,000 units. The Nintendo DS is hot on the heels of the Sony made handheld and a rise of 1,000 units in sales numbers brought it to a total of 48,000. The Nintendo Wii is again in third place and registering a bit of a fall, with only around 41,000 consoles sold in one week.

The PlayStation 3 is not seeing any more of the Metal Gear Solid 4 effect in Japan. After an early boom in sales clearly linked with the launch of Hideo Kojima's masterpiece, the platform is now mostly back to its usual level of sales with 12,000 units sold in one week. The PlayStation 2 is in the fifth spot, sporting some 10,000 units sold while the Xbox 360 only managed to sell 3,800 consoles in one week.

The videogames chart is dominated by the role playing game Persona 4, created by Atlus. In its first week, it managed to sell close to 200,000 copies, making it a best seller and one of the most successful PlayStation 2 launches in the history of the console. Despite the title having been created exclusively for the PlayStation 2, it failed to push up sales of the gaming device mainly because the install base is already very large.

The second place in the videogames chart is held by Wii Fit, which managed to sell some 30,000 units while the third spot goes to a new Densetsu no Stafy game in a series created by Nintendo with 29,000 units sold in its debut week.
