One of the most anticipated mobile phones of this beginning of the year is , undoubtedly, the Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone, which emerged quite a few times in the wild during the past few months, and which made it to the web once more, in some high-quality photos.

In addition to having the chance to take a better look at this device, and to see it running under the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor, we also learned that it might actually land on shelves as 'Xperia Play', just as rumored before.

There are not too many new details available on the mobile phone at the moment, but the new shots are meant to show a newer built of the handset than what was spotted in the previously leaked photos with it.

Moreover, they also prove that the Xperia Play device would arrive on shelves with Google's Android 2.3 platform on board right from the start (previous shots showed it running under Android 2.2 Froyo OS).

The fact that the upcoming Xperia Play (the PlayStation Phone or the Zeus Z1) was photographed next to an Xperia X10 gives us an idea of the dimensions of this handset.

What is completely unknown at the moment, at least officially, is when exactly this Android phone is launched, or when it lands on shelves.

Previous rumors suggested that it might be announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, in February, but there is also the possibility that Sony Ericsson would make it official as soon as this week, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Until something more solid emerges in this area, you should have a look at some of the new photos with the Xperia Play, which were attached to this article, or head over to this post on forum7.hkgolden (via Engadget) to see more of them.

You would see the Xperia logo present on the phone's front, as well as the square, triangle, X, and circle buttons that PlayStation fans should know very well.
