After many rumors, Sony and its newly founded SuperBot Entertainment studio have presented to the world the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale game that will allow players to control some of their favorite videogame characters and fight it out against or alongside their friends.

A brawling game from Sony has been rumored for quite some time, as the company owns quite a lot of franchises with iconic characters. Given the success of Nintendo’s Smash Bros. series, it was heavily rumored that Sony will soon reveal its own take on the genre.

Now, after plenty of speculation, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has finally been revealed to the world.

As you can no doubt guess, some of the most iconic characters from Sony-owned franchises, but also from third-party properties, will duke it out either competitively or cooperatively in the game made by SuperBot Entertainment.

“First and foremost, [the game is] a celebration of a storied history of great characters and rich worlds brought together in one game. And for us, there’s no better way to celebrate than by creating an experience that players can sit around one screen and enjoy together. There are probably a few types of games that can be enjoyed by four players simultaneously, but for us at SuperBot, a brawler was the obvious choice for one really good reason: the developers here at SuperBot really like fighting games,” the studio said.

Another big goal of SuperBot was to make PlayStation All-Stars an accessible experience for all fans, but also a deep and compelling one for hardcore fighting gamers.

“With PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, we set out to make an experience accessible enough for all PlayStation fans to enjoy while also creating something deep enough for the serious fighting game aficionado. We think this “accessible yet deep” strategy is the perfect way to bring PlayStation fans of all stripes together.”

Players will be able to fight it out either in the single-player mode or in a multiplayer, which also has support for tournaments.

From the first footage, which you can find above, you can see that quite a few characters are present in the game, from God of War’s Kratos, to Sly Cooper, Parappa the Rapper, Twisted Metal’s Sweet Tooth and even the Fat Princess.

All sorts of levels are also included, from the depths of Tartarus, which is roamed by Hades, to a Ratchet & Clank one, which is visited by a sea monster from God of War.
