First party studios are already pitching their projects for the PS4

Even if Sony emphasized time and time again that its PlayStation 3 is still going to be around for quite some time, new reports indicate that the Japanese company has tasked some of its internal development studios to start working on game projects for the PlayStation 4.

Current generation consoles are supposedly here to stay, at least judging by statements from their manufacturers, like Sony or Microsoft, but reports of next generation devices are growing in number and intensity in the last few months.

After hearing that a new Xbox console might be presented and released in 2013, UK magazine Develop now presents a new report concerning the PlayStation 4, saying that work on the device is still underway, but Sony is already asking internal studios to create projects for it.

Sony went on the record last year by saying that it wanted more feedback from developers before releasing the PlayStation 3, which was and still is criticized for its troublesome hardware that requires more time and resources, as opposed to the more simplistic Xbox 360.

Now, for the PlayStation 4, Sony really wants to hear developers out, at least according to Develop's inside sources, starting with its internal studios, before it finalizes work on the hardware of the new device.

No word yet on what actual studios are now pitching their ideas to Sony, but you can expect that quite a few of the company's first-party groups are dedicating at least some of their time to the next generation PlayStation console.

As of yet, however, Sony is still expected to heavily promote its PlayStation 3 this holiday season, not to mention the upcoming PlayStation Vita, the next generation handheld console it's going to release on December 17, in its native Japan, and February 22, in North America and Europe.

After that, it's anybody's guess when the PlayStation 4 might be confirmed.
