Cataclysm, the upcoming third expansion for the World of Warcraft MMO, will be allowing players to experience a clone of the popular casual game Plants vs. Zombies, as reimagined by Blizzard, presumably with full support from PopCap.

The World of Warcraft version of Plants vs. Zombies is called Peacebloom vs. Ghouls and is located in the Hillsbrand Foothills.

Apparently the MMO version of Plants vs. Zombies has a lower number of plants and it seems that some mechanics are also slightly changed, but the heart and soul of the PopCap hit is still present, with sun the main currency used to create defenses that can take out the advancing enemies.

There are specific achievements for those players who complete the game on their first try and the quest line can be repeated as many times as the gamer wants.

Cataclysm will be one of the biggest PC based launches of the year but at the moment Blizzard has not talked about an official launch date, although the game is now in closed beta and most players are reporting that it is pretty much done in terms of content.

Rumors are claiming that Cataclysm will be arriving during the first of second week of November, in order to hit the sweetspot of the Christmas shopping season.

Blizzcon, the annual meeting of company fans, is set to take place on October 22 and 23 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California and an official launch date and official expansion features will be unveiled there.

World of Warcraft is the most popular subscription based MMO in the world of gaming and Blizzard is working hard to deliver more content to the game, in order to make sure that long term players keep enjoying the game.

Here'a video of the new content in action (the video is quite long but only a few minutes in the Peacebloom vs. Ghouls quest is clearly visible):
