Stars are dying for it, ask no questions about where it comes from

That celebrities would do and try virtually anything to maintain their youthful appearance for longer – or, at least, deceive themselves into believing that’s what they accomplish – is no longer a secret. Placenta face creams and treatments are not new either, albeit no one speaks of them, perhaps somewhat ashamed of having to admit to using such an unlikely ingredient to fight the signs of old age. Yet, anyone who is someone in La La Land goes for placenta facials, as GMTV presenter Carla Romano can vouch for the Daily Mail.

Women flock to get this radical and unconventional beauty treatment because, they are told, it can do wonders for their skin. The idea with using placenta for beautifying purposes is that, because of its ingredients, it represents a return to the roots: placenta nourishes the baby in the womb, therefore it can only do the same for the face of a thirty-something or older woman. From what Romano says, this is more than just an elaborate hoax meant to leave aging women short of a couple of thousands of dollars, since the treatment does work.

With this in mind, it’s no wonder though that stars are dying to have their face smeared in placenta. “The venue for it is a little house in West Hollywood with no name on the door, presumably to protect the privacy of their celebrity clients, rumored to include J-Lo. Inside, the beautician explains that because the placenta nourishes the baby in the womb, the same nutrients would also work wonders for my skin.” Romano says of her first visit for such a treatment.

At over $450 a go, if placenta facials are a scam, they sure make for one of most expensive scams in the history of beauty industry. Still, the mere fact that women keep on coming back for it should speak volumes as to its efficiency, as Romano also points out. No one asks any questions (where does the placenta come from?, what else do you add to the facial?, how exactly does this work?) and no one wants to know more than what they’re being told – but they all come back for seconds because the youthful boost the skin receives with the treatment is simply too wonderful to ignore.

“I was looking around for a glass jar with something medical inside floating in fluid, but instead was presented with a tub of what looked like moisturizer (extract of placenta), which smelled fine. I thought I was going to have to stop the treatment because I felt myself retching. But I managed to soldier on for the hour it took. Afterwards, my skin felt so plumped up.” Romano further says of her first time experience with a placenta facial.

On a final note, one might as well add that, should not all women feel as sure of their ability to fight the sickness that inevitably comes with knowing what they have applied on their face, they should at least know that other, more “diluted” options are available, such as placenta toners and face creams.
