All the great in-game physics will be available directly from Nvidia

There are many top games that are using the PhysX software on PS3s, Xbox 360s and PCs and the users seem to be around 10,000. These alone are good enough proofs to suggest that Ageia would be a great acquisition - and Nvidia seems to believe the same thing, since they have announced that they will acquire the PhysX developer.

Even though the terms of the deal were not disclosed and the acquisition remains subject to customary closing conditions, Nvidia already knows what it is going to do with their newly bought toy. They are going to bring Ageia's PhysX solutions to GeForce graphics cards. Which will eventually mean just one thing: the realism in video games will reach new heights. And that, my friends, is great!

About the deal, Nvidia president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said: "The Ageia team is world class, and is passionate about the same thing we are - creating the most amazing and captivating game experiences. By combining the teams that created the world's most pervasive GPU and physics engine brands, we can now bring GeForce-accelerated PhysX to hundreds of millions of gamers around the world."

"Nvidia is the perfect fit for us. They have the world's best parallel computing technology and are the thought leaders in GPUs and gaming. We are united by a common culture based on a passion for innovating and driving the consumer experience," added Manju Hegde, co-founder and CEO of Ageia.

Ageia's PhysX technology basically takes care of how in-game objects move, react and behave. Based on some mind melting physics algorithms and very exact mathematical calculations, Ageia brings explosions that cause dust and collateral debris, characters with complex, jointed geometries for more life-like motion and interaction, spectacular and non physics defying weapons, cloth that drapes and tears the way you would expect it to and so on. And all these will come packed with the GeGorce video cards.
