As always, hardware makers are working on something, and ASUS is no exception, although, in this case, it seems to have provided, whether by intent or not, some photos of one of its current projects.

ASUS is one of those companies that deals in an entire host of different hardware products and full computer systems.

As such, it obviously has some items that fit in the high-end category, to set a sort of standard and gather fame.

Of course, when it comes to video cards, its options are somewhat limited by what models NVIDIA and Advanced Micro Devices deliver.

Nevertheless, variety is not really in short supply either, and the Matrix GeForce GTX 580 Platinum proves this.

This graphics adapter is a factory overclocked, custom-cooled version of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580, the currently strongest single-GPU card in the company's arsenal.

It is powered by the GF110 graphics processing unit which, in this instance, operates at 816 MHz, a significant boost over the stock 772 MHz.

Additionally, the 1.5 GB of GDDR5 VRAM are set at 4,008 MHz, while the shaders (512 CUDA cores) work at 1,632 MHz (stock setting is 1,544 MHz). Finally, the memory interface is of 384 bits.

This information has actually been available for a while, but only now have some actual photos of the beast been supplied.

Either way, it is more than likely that ASUS will bring this beast along to Computex, where it will bask in the gaze of onlookers alongside all other things its maker has in store, like the Crosshair V Formula AM3+ Motherboard, its tablets and whatever other hardware has been lined up.

Of course, with so many other companies there to fuel an overall state of rivalry, prospective buyers will have their work cut out for them when deciding on a purchase, and this is not just because it is still unclear when and for what price the Matrix GTX 580 Platinum will start selling.
