Codename Zephyr

Looks like Microsoft is not just sitting around and waiting for Sony and Nintendo to takeover the next-gen console market. Yeah, they have their own console out there, but keep in mind that they released the Xbox 360 quite some time ago. Maybe it's time for a new Microsoft console, don't you agree?

Engadget has as interesting piece in which they reveal what could be the next Xbox 360. They managed to get their hands on some pictures of what appears to be the next Microsoft console. Pointing out that Microsoft hasn't released a HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, and that the AV port wasn't really capable of digital out, they reveal that the Xbox 360 v2 is codenamed Zephyr. If you dig deep down into your memory, you might recall that the original Xbox 360 was codenamed Xenon.

By the looks of it, the new Xbox 360 v2 (or whatever it will be called) will have a new, cooler 65nm processor, as well as a HDMI port for 1080p fun. On top of this, we might see a 120GB drive, but it is not certain if the 120GB will come bundled with the retail package.

The engadget inside Xbox source does not have an exact release date for the new Microsoft console, all it has to say is that we will be able to get them soon.

If this turns out to be true, it will most definitely give Sony a run for their money, and maybe we will get even a cheaper PlayStation 3. Since we're talking about numbers, I'm curious to see how much will Xbox 360 Zephyr cost. Most of you were probably expecting to see a much smaller Xbox 360, but hey, at least it's going to have a real HDMI port?
