Pantech announced recently the launch of its new WPP-8000 mobile phone in Korea. The new handset is not just a regular device; it is the company's first cell phone to use Wi-Fi connectivity. The WPP-8000 has been released in the country via LG Dacom, one of the leading providers of high-speed Internet, voice and data services in South Korea.

Many of you might already know that Wi-Fi-enabled mobile phones are not a trend anymore these days, yet Pantech's new WPP-8000 handset comes with features that differentiate it from the GSM or CDMA devices we are used to see nowadays and it is here to stay.

The new Pantech WPP-8000 Wi-Fi cell phone is meant to use LG Dacom’s myLG070 service, which would allow users to connect to the Internet through a wireless LAN connection, also known as iHub. This way, the carrier's customers would be able to get the latest news headlines, along with stock and weather information, without any additional charges for this.

The new Wi-Fi-enabled mobile phone comes with a series of other features as well, among which we can count Caller ID, along with text messaging capabilities. It seems that there are not too many details about the specs list of the device at the moment, and the handset might not look too attractive, with a smaller screen than one would expect, yet it seems that most mobile phones that bear WPP-8000's Wi-Fi feature come with a similar display size.

At the same time, we might see Pantech launch more Wi-Fi-enabled handsets in the future, provided that the new WPP-8000 sees enough traction from the Korean users. For the time being, we have no info on the price tag the device comes to the market with.
