A first leaked image of Palm Treo 500 has just appeared on the internet, giving good reasons for people to consider this the smartphone that Pal wants to announce on the 12th of September. The company has made a special web page looking to host the device that they will launch and a contest related to this event.

Palm has canceled the distribution of its Foleo mobile companion at the last minute, intending to invest in one single next generation software platform. The last minute call drained the company of a considerable amount of money, which gives them good reasons for having high expectations from future devices to make up for the loss.

Palm Treo 500 comes in some fairly compact sizes for a smartphone, at 61 x 110 x 16 mm. The device also brings a full QWERTY keypad, which will make it possible to enter long text messages fairly easy. Its display screen is capable of supporting a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, a great one for watching videos and images at high quality.

The smartphone runs Windows Mobile 6, the most evolved version of this operating system, matching the phone's evolved performances. Palm Treo 500 also includes UTMS and Bluetooth connectivity, as evolved handsets now manage to do. The disadvantage that this device brings is that it has no touchscreen, although there are some people out there that don't ask for this feature from their mobile phones.

The 2 megapixel camera is almost a standard in the case of evolved smartphones and it will bring some average quality images. There is also a microSD card support, for making sure that the user has enough space for storing all his personal data on it.

Palm Treo 500 has high chances of seeing an official announcement on the 12th of September, although this is only a rumor for now.
