No details on when they will arrive

Sunnyvale-based mobile phone maker Palm has kept mum until now when asked about the possibility that its webOS-based handsets might arrive at AT&T; yet, it seems that the carrier might receive these devices in the first half of the ongoing year. We're talking Palm Pre and Palm Pixi here, both of which are said to have been already spotted in a series of server logs that have all to do with the wireless carrier.

According to a recent article on PreCentral, the news site got the handsets on a series of server logs that show “some visits from both the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi running on AT&T IP addresses,” but that is not all. It seems that both mobile phones were running under the 1.3.8 flavor of webOS, and that the reference to that webOS 1.3.8 flavor and to the Pre and Pixi running on AT&T has been already found in the logs at DSL Reports.

What this 1.3.8 flavor of the mobile operating system is all about is not known at the moment, it seems. However, since Palm already unveiled plans to deliver the webOS 1.4 version of its platform during the next month, this might be only a separate version designed for AT&T's devices only, which could be soon replaced with the 1.4 flavor. Especially since the latter is expected to arrive in February and Palm is known to push about the same platform iteration to all available models on the market.

There are no details available now on when the AT&T-bound Palm Pre and Palm Pixi make an official appearance on the market, yet it might not be too soon, since they will arrive at Verizon Wireless in a matter of days. For what it's worth, it comes as good news to learn that Palm is working on expanding the availability of its Pre and Pixi handsets, considering the work it did with the webOS platform. Keep an eye on this space for more details on the matter.
