The newly released Palm Pre 2 smartphone is only one of the webOS-based devices the company plans on delivering to the market in the near future, with a number of five or six other products said to be waiting in line to make an official appearance on shelves soon.

It appears that Palm, now a subsidiary of Hewlett Packard, would plan on expanding its smartphone lineup with a number of around five new devices.

Financial paper The Taiwan Economic Times reports that Foxconn Technology and Compal Communications have landed contracts with Palm for the manufacturing of a number of 6 devices.

According to the story, Palm “has recently resumed its orders to contract suppliers, with Foxconn to supply four to five new types of Palm`s smartphones for sale in 2011, and Commpal Communications to deliver one new type.”

Among these devices, we should see the first webOS-based tablet PC being brought to the shelves, under the name of PalmPad.

The same as the aforementioned mobile phones, the slate should land on shelves sometime in 2011, the news site notes.

For what it's worth, it does not come as a surprise that Palm and HP decided to go big on the mobile space.

The mobile phone maker already announced officially plans to come up with a series of impressive devices that would run under the new webOS 2.0 operating system, and the new report confirms the move.

At the same time, one should agree that it makes perfect sense for a webOS tablet PC to be pushed out in the near future, especially with a large number of other makers also making the move.

Of course, the said Palm smartphones are only in the rumor side for the time being, but details on them should start emerging in the near future.

It still remains to be seen when exactly would these devices be set to land on the market, and at what price tags, so keep an eye on this space for more on this.
