Palm has just announced the release of Palm Foleo, their first smartphone companion product. The device holds all features needed for adding mobility to the user's work and manages to earn a top place among the most evolved such devices.

Palm has unveiled their Foleo smartphone some while ago and promised it to land in stores sometime this summer. Time has come for the company to keep its word and finally make the device available.

Palm Foleo stresses the importance of the wireless performance, as it looks to be a more complete mobile solution for email, attachments and access to the web. The Foleo mobile companion has a large screen and full-size keyboard, excellent for viewing and editing email and office documents on the smartphone. The great thing about this solution is that all edits made on the Foleo are automatically reflected on its paired smartphone and the other way around too.

"Smartphones will be the most prevalent personal computers on the planet, ultimately able to do everything that desktop computers can do. However, there are times when people need a large screen and full-size keyboard. As smartphones get smaller, this need increases. The Foleo completes the picture, creating a mobile-computing system that sets a new standard in simplicity", said Jeff Hawkins, founder of Palm.

Foleo works on a Linux-based operating system, which will come as great news for many of those who prefer this software support. This, along with the Wi-Fi radio makes it easy for developers to create new applications and later install them with a single click in the browser.

The Foleo also has a USB port, video-out port, headphone jack and slots for SD and compact flash cards for memory expansion. Moreover, Palm now looks to receive help from third-party software developers in building new applications to work on their devices.
