PS4 firmware update 1.70 has received its official changelog from Sony, confirming the many different features included in the system software update, ahead of its launch later today, April 30.

The PlayStation 4 came out last November together with system software update 1.50, which enabled many different features for the new console. Since then, Sony has slowly but surely released several different firmware updates for the new console, so that it can add more features, enable different mechanics, and improve the stability of the whole device.

Now, the biggest and most interesting firmware update, version 1.70, is set to be released today, April 30, all around the world.

Before the update goes live, Sony has just revealed the full changelog on the PS blog, reaffirming already-detailed features, like the ShareFactory video editor, but also mentioning new things like extra PS Store payment options, more PS Camera commands, and other such things.

First up, there's the ShareFactory video editor, which can be installed once the PS4 has been updated to version 1.70 and allows owners of the console to edit, tweak, and share their gameplay videos with ease.

"ShareFactory allows you to easily customize your gameplay videos with special effects, video commentary with picture-in-picture capability through PlayStation Camera, and custom soundtracks using the included audio tracks or your original music imported from a USB drive. You can then share your videos on Facebook or export them to an external USB storage device," the studio said.

Sony promises that the editor is packed with cool but accessible tools, simple enough for most PS4 owners.

Another major feature coming to the console is pre-downloading of digital games bought from the PlayStation Store.

"This new feature allows you to get to your games faster by automatically downloading select pre-ordered games up to several days in advance of the release, so that it’s ready to play as soon as the game is released on launch day. There’s also a countdown timer prior to the release of the game so you’ll know how soon your game will be available for you to start playing."

Gamers who want to use their capture cards to record gameplay will enjoy the option to disable HDCP encryption for games, and they can also use the new Share options to save videos onto a USB drive.

Live streaming can now be done at a 720p HD resolution and the broadcasts will be archived on Twitch or Ustream.

With the new firmware, PS4 owners can also change the intensity of the DualShock 4 light bar from Bright, Medium, or Dim, while the touchpad can finally be used in the on-screen keyboard.

Fresh options for the Friends list are included in the new firmware, as are new trophy sort mechanics and commands for the PS Camera. A PS Plus icon will appear next to the ID of players on the login and home screens, while Music Unlimited subscribers can share their favorite songs using the Share button on the controller.

The new PS4 firmware update 1.70 goes live later today, April 30, so expect an official confirmation of its download status soon.

Update: The PS4 system software update 1.70 is now available for download via PSN.
