Sony raises the console's price in Canada to $699.99

OK, really now, what is Sony doing? They had problems with spokesmen announcing its launch incorrectly, then they said something like the PS3 is a "total disaster," then they post the wrong picture for an online downloadable game for the PSP and now they raise the price for the PS3 with $50 in Canada. Oh, and let's not forget that a list of good games to get hasn't been available for a long time, just recently some 30 games have been announced to be available for download via PlayStation Store. So, Sony still expects the console to sell?

Maybe publicity does tend to be a little exaggerated, but the truth is it 'has' become "a total disaster." The last important statement coming from a Sony spokesman was that they are going to "keep" selling the unit at its normal price for as long as the price for manufacturing the new diodes is covered, at least for the year 2007. So much for that huh?

Those at Sony should have really kept their heads low until people started to gain some confidence in buying the already criticized machine, but instead they go and raise the price from $659.99 to $699.99. With so many better alternatives out there, I can't imagine anyone now wanting to buy the PS3 that badly.

Still, there is a chance for things to take another turn as some great games are exclusively available on the PS3 and many more to come too so, gamers who desperately want a certain game will pay whatever it takes to get their hands on it. Maybe that's what Sony is counting on.
