Europeans have it today but the rest of the world has a little longer to wait

If by any chance you weren't getting along with your PS3 because of the 1.5 firmware, Sony has thought of this very aspect and has launched firmware v.1.54. Enabling it won't give you any clue to what it really does; this is because you have to dig really deep in order to know how the firmware upgrade will improve your use of the PS3.

One improvement, sort of, is that the image of the person you are video chatting with can now be changed to match the screen size but the other improvement, which is more useful and will meet some demand is that you can now use an USB camera compatible with USB video class (UVC), for video chat. Not so excited, huh? Don't worry, you're not the only one for sure and I didn't want to mention this but you forced me so here goes: the updated firmware v. 1.54 won't be available worldwide until the launch date of the PAL PS3, 23 March. So, until then, only the Europeans will benefit from it.

Now, why are there so few improvements? Surely there is plenty of stuff the PS3 can do rather than high quality video chatting. Yes, but Sony is focusing at the present on what is a first priority issue and that is launching their console without anymore problems in the PAL territories. After that, firmware updates might very well give the PS3 the ability to make you fries.
