PCD (formerly known as UTStarcom) came last week in Las Vegas at the CTIA Wireless trade show with some of its latest devices, among which the rather unique TXT8030 mobile phone with messaging capabilities was spotted.

What makes the PCD TXT8030 so special is the fact that it comes with a candybar-style form factor yet it is able to twist in the middle. Those who remember the Nokia 3250 XpressMusic know how that works. The bottom part of the handset can be rotated to offer different functionality. On one face of the bottom part of the PCD TXT8030 users will be able to find a full QWERTY keyboard that can be used for easy messaging, while on the other one they will have music control keys that are coupled with big speakers.

The upper part of the mobile phone will remain unchanged, meaning that the display and the d-pad will stay on the same side. And the handset includes a 2.2-inch screen, which, coupled with the fact that it twists from the middle, seems like a great addition to a CDMA phone that is only a low-end one.

The specification list of the PCD TXT8030 also shows that the device includes a 1.3-megapixel photo snapper, as well as a MicroSD memory card slot able to provide users with up to 16GB of additional storage space. Basically, the new device could easily prove a great option for young phone users who need a handset for messaging and music. The PCD TXT8030 is reported to measure 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches.

It seems that the phone maker intends to bring the device to the market sometime in the third quarter of the ongoing year, though it is still uncertain at the moment. No details on the price tag of the PCD TXT8030 have been unveiled yet.
