PC gamers love the undead

The PC platform is declared doomed at the beginning of every year by some analysts who say that this is the year when the PC will finally die and be overtaken by consoles. But luckily the old platform keeps on fighting and it still making a hefty profit for companies that choose to bring their games onto it.

As always, we have some fresh information on how sales have evolved on the PC this week, with charts from the NPD group, which follows retail distribution, and from the top online content distribution networks, Steam and Direct2Drive.

While all is well and almost boring in the retail charts, with WoW, Sims and Left 4 Dead dominating their opponents, the Steam charts show a very interesting situation. All of the first four games feature zombies or zombie-like monsters. From Killing Floor, which continues its dominance after having been launched last week, to Call of Duty: World at War, which enjoys a newly found popularity thanks to a price cut, and the old favorites Left 4 Dead and Plants vs. Zombies, things are going great for the undead.

Direct2Drive charts are showing some interesting changes, as even though Mount & Blade can't be taken from its number one spot, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel and Battlestations: Pacific are selling very well. Civilization IV also sees some newly found success, in both its normal version and its Complete Edition.

NPD Charts May 3-9

1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King 2. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe 3. Left 4 Dead 4. World Of Warcraft 5. World Of Warcraft Battle Chest 6. Empire: Total War 7. Spore 8. Fallout Trilogy 9. Bejeweled Twist 10. The Sims 2 Apartment Life

Steam Charts as of May 19

1. Killing Floor 2. Call of Duty: World At War 3. Left 4 Dead 4. Plants vs Zombies 5. Team Fortress 2 6. Counter-Strike Source 7. The Orange Box 8. Call of Duty 4 9. Empire: Total War 10. Battlestations Pacific

Direct2Drive Charts May 10-16

Overall, a great week for PC gamers and for games that are available on the PC, showing consoles that things are still going great for this platform.
