The PC version of Battlefield 1943 and the Onslaught downloadable content for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on that same platform have been canceled, with development studio DICE saying that it will focus its PC team on preparing the upcoming Battlefield 3 title.

Electronic Arts' DICE studio has always backed up the PC platform, even while other first-person shooter studios were focusing just on consoles.

Sadly, even if the team wanted to release the downloadable Battlefield 1943 and the Onslaught DLC for Bad Company 2 on the PC, the goal can no longer be achieved.

Posting on the Battlefield Blog, studio General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson revealed that the decision was hard to take, but, for the sake of Battlefield 3, it was needed.

"While we'll continue supporting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and previous games, it's time to look ahead to the next giant leap for DICE - the release of Battlefield 3, powered by the mighty Frostbite 2 engine," said Troedsson.

"Our goal is crystal clear: we're going to build the best Battlefield game ever, and we'll do whatever it takes to make this the biggest launch in DICE's history."

"We know some of you eagerly have been awaiting Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught on PC. I'm sad to say that these two titles are now officially canceled.

"Instead, our talented teams will focus on delivering the greatest possible gaming experience in our next behemoth release. We're confident this will lead to an even better experience in Battlefield 3, not only on PC, but on all platforms," he added.

Battlefield 3 is one of the biggest first-person shooters of the year, as DICE is preparing it to go head to head with Activision's all but confirmed Call of Duty title (probably Modern Warfare 3).

The title has just received its first teaser trailer and a few other details earlier today.

DICE already confirmed that for the PC version of Battlefield 3 wouldn't be consolized, and that this specific edition will have a lot of custom features, as opposed to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
