I have to admit, when I saw that host Ellen DeGeneres came up on stage at the Oscars 2014 last night accompanied by a pizza delivery guy, and handed out slices of pizza to celebrities sitting in the front rows, I assumed the whole thing was just a prank.

As it turns out, it wasn’t: the guy really works as a delivery boy, with TMZ paparazzi tracking him down to a place called Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria. It also reports that he made about $300 (€217.8) from his delivery of 3 boxes of pizza at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, smack during the Oscars gala.

That’s because Ellen asked for celebrities to chip in, saying she had no money on her to pay for the delivery. So she wasn’t really that generous as she seemed, but she was cool to think of this when no one else before had.

To collect the money for the bill and the tips, Ellen used Pharrell Williams’ rangers hat, the one he debuted at the Grammys and has been wearing ever since. Everyone contributed, from Lupita Nyong’o and Kevin Spacey, to Harvey Weinstein, one of the biggest producers in Hollywood.

You can see him throwing money in the hat in the GIF below the paparazzi video. He doesn’t seem too pleased to be paying for the treat Ellen promised she’d offer, but everyone around him is laughing, so he is probably joking. The same goes for Kevin Spacey.
