14 DAY TRIAL // Insiders say that Angelina Jolie's apparently ridiculous leg pose on the red carpet at the Oscars 2012 was just a joke she pulled on photographers, but there is at least one person who wasn't amused: Joan Rivers of E!'s Fashion Police.
Speaking with Radar Online, the television personality, never one to mince her words, explains how she believes Angelina ruined years of hard PR work with the awkward, “stupid” pose on the red carpet.
Until Sunday night, when the Academy Awards took place, Jolie was perceived as a superstar, a femme fatale who was also a screen icon.
Today, Rivers believes, she's just a woman who exercised a stupid pose at home and then embarrassed herself on the red carpet, in front of millions watching.
“Angelina Jolie looked like a fool the way she posed. She took herself right out of that super star category because you now realize she stands in front of a mirror to figure out [what she looks like],” she says.
There is no way Jolie hadn't exercised the pose at home, as far as Joan is concerned.
However, she muses, perhaps Jolie isn't even aware yet of the damage it's done to her career.
“Have you ever seen anybody stand with their hand on a hip with a leg thrown out to open an envelope? No. and you want to say, you idiot! You brought us back to the fact and we’ve all forgotten that you used to wear blood around your neck and French kiss your brother!” Rivers lets it rip.
As she sees it, this one ridiculous pose, that Jolie repeated during the Oscarcast, when she came on stage to present an award, exposed the “real” Jolie to the world and to her fans.
“This is the first stupid move she’s made. She handles her own PR, career and it’s all been very thought out. She turned around from kissing her brother on the carpet to being a representative of the United Nations and she’s done it all. She turned herself around to be a super star and you go whoops!” says the television personality.
As for what could have prompted Angelina, usually so demure and contained on the red carpet, to do something like this, even as a joke, Rivers proposes an answer: “Maybe she had a drink?”
