Oscar Pistorious, the “Blade Runner” who had all eyes on him when he became the first paralympian to take part in the “regular” Olympic Games, has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp.

As we also reported earlier today, it was believed that Pistorious thought his girlfriend was an intruder, so he shot her in what he assumed was self-defense.

CNN confirms that a young man whose identity has not been disclosed to the press (which is standard procedure in South Africa) has been charged with the murder. He is the only suspect.

“I don't know nothing. It will be extremely obnoxious and rude to speculate, I don't know the facts,” Pistorious’ father told the press about the incident.

It is believed that Reeva wanted to surprise Oscar for Valentine’s Day, so she showed up at his house without telling him anything about it. He feared it was an intruder and shot her once in the head and once in the arm.

Police recovered a gun at the scene.
