Orico certainly isn’t known in the hardware market as an SSD maker, but the company has recently started to expand its product portfolio and came up with its own series solid state drives, dubbed the HM01, which is based on Marvell’s SATA 6 Gbps controllers.

The HM01 series SSDs use the regular 2.5-inch form factor and will be released in three capacities providing 64GB, 128GB and 156GB of storage space.

At the heart of the solid state drives stands Marvell’s 88SS9174 SATA 6Gbps controller which is paired together with toggle NAND Flash memory built by Toshiba using the 24nm fabrication process.

This Toshiba DDR MLC memory was designed to require only 1.8V in order to operate, which should decrease the power consumption of the SSDs using it, while also being able to support transmission rates of 133 Mbps.

According to the HM01 review posted by a Chinese Website, this configuration enables the 256GB version of the Orico SSD to surpass 500MB/s and 440MB/s in sequential read and write transfers speed tests, while random read/write performance exceeds 70,000/65,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second).

As far as the performance of the 64GB and 128GB models is concerned, this is estimated at speeds of up to 500 MB/s for reads and 330 MB/s for writes, in test scenarios involving sequential data.

Sadly, Orico hasn’t provided any information regarding the price or the availability date of these SSDs. Furthermore, we don’t know if the HM01 solid state drive series will ever make it out of Asia.

The Marvell 88SS9174 SATA 6Gbps controller that is used in this drives is also installed inside Intel’s performance oriented 510 series, aka Elm Crest, SSDs as well as in a series of other solid drives from the likes of Plextor or Corsair.
