A new service for developers has just been announced by Orange, Orange Partner Connect, which enables them to directly submit applications to be distributed in the Orange App Shop. According to Orange, the new service is meant to bring the developer community closer to the carrier's customers

With the new Orange Partner Connect developers will now have a more straightforward, quick and transparent way to get their applications to market and monetize them on various mobile platforms.

“We have learned from our experience in publishing Orange-branded applications on various app stores and listened to the needs of application developers to create a service that works for them,” said Yves Tyrode, executive vice president of Orange Technocentre.

“Orange Partner Connect has been designed so that our developer partners can benefit from Orange’s global scale, local presence and trusted customer relationships. With this new service we aim to establish a transparent win-win business partnership that developers can trust to truly market their applications to local audiences,” added Tyrode.

Orange Partner Connect simplifies the submission, testing and publishing process of applications from the Orange App Shop through a web-based portal where developers can register online.

In addition to the 70/30 revenue share for referencing and for standard publication of their applications in the Orange App Shop, developers will also be able to allocate a part of their revenue for marketing services such as dedicated banners or application promotion campaigns.

“Consumers want choice and simplicity when accessing high quality applications. They want to enjoy the discovery of useful and entertaining content on their device with peace of mind,” said Christophe François, vice president of Mobile Multimedia at Orange.

Thanks to the value-based relationship we are building with our developer partners, our customers will be able to choose from a wide selection of quality and locally relevant applications on their device,” continued François.

The new service hub is initially available for Android applications and it will be soon extended to BlackBerry and Java.

Starting this month, developers will be able to submit their Android applications, while Java and Blackberry applications will be accepted in the first quarter of 2011.
