Today is a big day for Nippon camera and optics manufacturer Olympus, who finally announced its latest OM-D series entry-level mirrorles MFT camera, the E-M10.

Along with the E-M10, the company also introduced its first 50x superzoom bridge camera, the SP-100, which features a cool built-in dot-sight, which allows you to easily track your subjects.

Besides these two models, Olympus has revealed a new compact camera as part of the Tough Stylus series, called TG-850, which comes with a few interesting features for its class.

The Olympus TG-850 is a rugged compact camera designed to be the perfect companion for anyone who loves to explore the wilderness without having to worry about breaking their camera if it’s accidentally dropped into the water or onto a rock.

TG-850 comes with minor improvements over the last version, but has two new features that come as a first in its class: the widest lens available on a rugged compact camera and a tiltable waterproof LCD display.

The new Olympus Tough camera features a 16MP 1/2.3-inch backlit CMOS sensor, TruePic VII image processor, and is capable of capturing up to 7.1fps in burst shooting mode. Moreover, the TG-850 can also record 1080p Full HD video footage at 60fps and has a built-in intervalometer that allows you to capture up to 99 photos at an interval of 10 to 60 seconds.

The camera packs a 35mm equivalent 21-105mm f/3.5-5.7 5x wide-angle lens, which, as of now, is the widest in its class. The waterproof 3-inch 460k-dot LCD monitor, on the other hand, can be tilted up to 180 degrees, making it easier to capture the desired picture without having to get down to the level of the camera.

In addition to that, Olympus TG-850 is waterproof up to 33ft / 10m, freezeproof up to 14°F / -10°C, shockproof if dropped from as high as 7ft / 2m, crushproof (220lbs / 100kg), and dustproof.

Olympus TG-850 (Silver, Black, or White) is now available for pre-order at a price of $249.99 / €183 and, although the official press release states that the camera will hit market shelves in March, AmazonUS lists its shipping date on February 12.
