14 DAY TRIAL // News that Mel Gibson was divorcing his wife of almost 30 years came as a shock, but perhaps confirmation that he was already in another relationship and about to become a father for the eighth time was the bigger surprise. After about a year of dating, Mel split from Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva, and is now waging a bitter war of words against her in the media. The latest development comes from camp Oksana, TMZ writes.
A few days ago, it emerged that Gibson had filed for a restraining order against the singer, presumably on reasons related to the custody of the 7-month daughter Lucia. Days later, word got out that it was Oksana who initially went to court, claiming Mel had been violent to her on at least a handful of occasions, therefore she needed protection from him. In response, Gibson said his ex was only doing this for the money, though he did make sure he’d provide for her and her daughter to the best of his abilities.
That too is part of a scheme to have her name dragged through the mud, Grigorieva’s attorney is now saying for TMZ. “Oksana Grigorieva’s lawyers are lashing out at Mel Gibson’s lawyer for claiming Mel has been more than generous in supporting her and their baby. Oksana’s lawyer, Marci Levine, tells TMZ, ‘The statement released to TMZ on behalf of Mel Gibson is based upon complete distortions of the truth regarding Mr. Gibson’s financial contributions toward the parties’ child and conveniently ignores his obligations to the parties’ child under California law’,” TMZ informs.
“Levine would not specifically say how Mel has fallen short, but sources connected with Oksana claim the actor has not paid child support since the couple split. Levine says, ‘Mr. Gibson persists in attempting to “litigate” this matter in the media, and continues to launch false accusations against the mother of his child.’ And Levine says, ‘Unlike Mr. Gibson, Ms. Grigorieva has not, and will not engage in this type of undignified banter in the press’,” the same media outlet goes on to say.
As we also reported the other day, Gibson’s attorney has been telling the media (and TMZ in particular) that the actor has done the impossible to make sure both Oksana and Lucia are well cared for. That included buying a house for them, a car for Grigorieva and setting up a more than generous monthly allowance for both.
