Designed to provide mobile computer users with a powerful, compact and reliable storage solution, OWC's range of Mercury Elite Pro Dual Mini external RAID drives has now received five new additions, two of them featuring hard disks while the others are based on SSDs.

Inside the aluminum enclosure of the Mercury Elite Pro Dual, users will find installed two 2.5-inch drives that can be setup to work in a RAID 0 or RAID 1 mode.

The type of drives and the total storage capacity available depends on the model chosen as well as on the RAID mode these are configured to run in, but the newly introduced solutions span in capacity from 240GB to 1TB.

These connect to the computer using OWC's well known Quad Interface design, which includes two FireWire 800, one FireWire 400, one USB 2.0, and one eSATA ports.

In addition to being used as a data link between the external drive and the computer, the FireWire ports also provide power to the Mercury Elite Pro Dual Mini.

"This unique, side by side dual drive design has been very popular with in-the-field creative professionals that require a minimum of bulk both in shape and weight," said Larry O'Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing.

"Now by adding additional models that offer lower cost hard drive options as well as higher capacity SSD options, users seeking a portable RAID solution will find everything they're looking for in the Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini," concluded the company's rep.

All Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini models are available immediately from OWC and pricing varies depending on the model chosen.

This starts at $159.99 and $189.99 for the 640GB and 1.0TB hard drive models, and can go up to $1919.99 for the 960GB model which packs two OWC Mercury Electra 6G SSDs. A full list of all the modes available can be found here.
