BlackBerry Storm 9530 users might have a great reason to rejoice, as the OS 5.0.0.140 has been reportedly made available for download for their devices. According to CrackBerry, the new firmware version has been spotted in the wild on a Chinese site, and this might be only a beta build of the OS, yet it seems that some users already installed it on their devices and it works.

Even so, those who might like to do the same should take into consideration the fact that the OS is not an official one, which means that they need to take all the necessary precautions before proceeding with the upgrade. At the same time, not all the applications available at the moment on the Storm will work with the new OS 5.0.0.140, since some of them might not support it.

For what it's worth, those who already tried the new firmware are reporting that there are some things that can already be spotted, such as different screen transitions or a battery log. Moreover, the new software seems to perform much faster compared to previous operating system flavors, and some of the applications are still working, although not all of them and not at full percentage.

“Only downfall so far for me is Facebook app doesnt work. I can wait for that but every other app i've used works great so far and new OS is amazingly fast and love the transitions!! Working apps: Slacker, Meterberry, Weathereye, BBM 5.0, VVM, Youtube, Google Voice, EARTH Theme, Viigo, StormSlider Free Edition, and BerryLabryinth. Have all that plus a little bit more and have 34mb app memory free and staying steady! So far im keeping this OS!,” states je2345 from CrackBerry forums.

The one app that doesn’t seem to be working is the IM, but other problems have been reported as well, though overall the new OS seems to come with an improved user experience. One thing that should be noted is that, according to CrackBerry, those who will try out the new OS after installing it on their PC should go to the Add/Remove programs and uninstall RIM Internal Apps 5.0.

The best thing to do is to wait for the official update to arrive, since the leaked one might cause a lot of problems to some users, especially given the fact that it is not yet a final version. Even so, in case you're into it, make sure you do everything right, so as not to brick your device and render it useless.
