Says OTX research

What do people, in this case, gamers, want? Research firm OTX was interested in the question and delivered data showing that Halo 3: ODST from Bungie and Microsoft, which is set to come in late summer, and Modern Warfare 2 from Activision and Infinity Ward, arriving in time for Christmas, are the most eagerly awaited titles for the Xbox 360.

The data was provided by research group OTX to Gamasutra and was gathered via its GamePlan Insights business intelligence tool during the months of March and April. More than 1,000 gamers from various demographics were interviewed by those creating the list.

EA Sport's Madden NFL 10 is the third most wanted game with Final Fantasy XIII from Square Enix coming fourth, and Assassin's Creed 2 from Ubisoft in fifth. The list compiled by OTX has twenty positions and they go on like this: BioShock 2; Mass Effect 2; NCAA Football 10; X-Men Origins: Wolverine; Fight Night Round 4; Need for Speed: Shift; Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction; Fallout 3: Broken Steel; Batman: Arkham Asylum; Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion; Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10; Tekken 6; Battlefield: Bad Company 2; The Beatles: Rock Band; Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

The most interesting thing when looking at the list is that all the games are, in a way or another, sequels. There's no new, original intellectual property eagerly awaited by Xbox 360 gamers, even though a few, like Prototype, are set to be released shortly. The second interesting thing is that only one of the games on the list, Halo 3: ODST, is exclusive to the platform, with Final Fantasy XIII, which is at fourth place, being recently seen as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Finally, some of the titles on the list, like Splinter Cell: Conviction, are eagerly awaited even if they have been repeatedly delayed.
