Nuance, creators of the popular Dragon Go! application for Android devices has just released a new and improved mobile assistant.

Dubbed Dragon Mobile Assistant, the software is still in beta. Built on the success of the Dragon Go! mobile assistant, the new application improves and expands the natural language understanding, as well as AI abilities included in the first app.

With the new and improved Dragon Mobile Assistant for Android, users will be able to send texts, call, set appointments, and get direct access to content from more than 200 mobile web content providers.

“Consumers loved the original Dragon Go! and wanted even more So we totally redesigned the experience in a conversational way and added the most popular personal assistant features,” said Michael Thompson, executive vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile.

Moreover, Nuance claims Dragon Mobile Assistant for Android enables a hands-free personal assistant experience, as the phone can be controlled by voice. Besides, the application can also read user’s incoming messages aloud.

Dragon Mobile Assistant Dragon 1.0.0 is now available as a free download via Google Play store only in the US. However, for the time being the application only supports devices running Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and up. Check it out here.

According to Nuance, the application will get expanded availability and new features before the end of 2012, though we don’t have a clear release schedule for the moment, so stay tuned for more updates on this one.

“Nuance is investing deeply in Natural Language Understanding and conversational dialog technologies. We will continue to add new innovations to the Dragon Mobile Assistant to explore what's possible, and to push the limits of intelligent voice interfaces across all mobile form factors, including phones, tablets, PCs, cars, and televisions,” said Vlad Sejnoha, chief technology officer, Nuance.
