That is if you want it for the Blu-ray playing capabilities and not for the next-gen games

Well, not that we didn't expect it, but here it goes: "a veritable posse of movie studios and consumer electronics companies jointly announced a summer sales promotion to drive sales of Blu-ray players," Gamespot reports. Apparently, every purchaser of a Blu-ray player (PS3's are actually the big hook of course) will receive five Blu-ray movies out of 21 choices. The offer will be available from July 1 to September 30.

Listed below is the lineup of participating movies, as posted on the mentioned gaming site:

Babel Black Rain Blazing Saddles Chicken Little The Corpse Bride The Devil's Rejects The Guardian Hart's War Invincible The Italian Job Kiss of the Dragon The Last Waltz The Omen [2006] Pearl Harbor The Phantom of the Opera Resident Evil: Apocalypse Species Stealth Stir of Echoes The Transporter 2 Underworld: Evolution

Of course, movies are great and all, but PS3 buyers mostly want games. Had they made an offer including Blu-rayed games, things would have been... interesting. But they can't do that now, can they? You watch a movie once, but games... they go inside the machine more than twice or thrice in their lifetime.

Anyway, as I said above, it was to be expected. Why? Did you honestly think that Sony was going to adopt the price-dropping strategy so soon? No, my dear fellows, they're holding tight (with their teeth probably) to that $600 price tag until there's absolutely no doubt that the console isn't selling because of the price. Basically, I agree with them. The machine is overpriced, no doubt about it, but given that it also lacks a good array of next-gen titles, you never know what the real reason is.

Anyway, the site mentioned above also informs that more information on this offer will be available at the format's official web page. OK then, I'm sure you're absolutely convinced now that this deal shouldn't be missed...
