SK Hynix and Samsung don't seem to be singing the same tune as everyone else

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, two of the largest memory makers in South Korea, and the whole world for that matter, have decided to replace 30nm memory with 20nm next year (2013).

A more advanced manufacturing process always means higher capacity, lower power consumption and a smaller physical size.

We aren't surprised to hear of this advancement, not exactly, but it is a bit unusual to learn about it after it has been reported that random access memory will improve more slowly from now on.

Due to poor sales and constant oversupply, manufacturers have decided to stop pushing things, since rapid advancement has obviously failed to spark better sales.

Samsung and SK Hynix may be the only ones still sticking to their memory developments and manufacturing roadmaps.

Then again, these two also intend to shift focus away from the PC DRAM market and make more mobile device and server products for a while.
