Ever since embracing Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has been rumored to plan the launch of a tablet PC powered by the Windows 8 operating system, and it seems that it might be finally nearing the release of the device.

According to the latest reports on the matter, Nokia is set to launch the slate on September 26, during a press event rumored for New York City.

To be more precise, a recent article on Nokiapoweruser claims that the device will indeed become official in the last week of September, though it’s yet uncertain whether it will run under Windows 8.1 or Windows RT, it seems.

Apparently, Nokia actually planned on making the tablet PC official as soon as this month, but it pushed the unveiling back so as to match the release schedule of the new Windows 8 version.

The slate should arrive in the United States on the network of wireless carrier AT&T, rumor has it, but no specific details on the hardware specifications and capabilities of the device have surfaced as of now.

However, the same rumor suggests that the Finnish handset vendor would make a large Lumia smartphone official in the first week of November.

Previously, the company was said to aim at releasing this 5-inch or larger phone on September 26, but it appears that there might have been a change of plans.

Running under Windows Phone 8 GDR3, the handset was also said to pack a quad-core processor, and to be landing on shelves before the end of the year, in time for the holiday shopping season.

What’s more interesting about the new rumor on Nokia’s plans for the remaining of 2013 is that October might bring to the spotlight dual-SIM Lumia devices.

Nokia already offers mobile phones with support for two SIM cards, though none in the Lumia series, something that should change soon, it seems.

For the time being, no official confirmation on any of the above has been provided, so we’ll take the info with a grain of salt. Keep an eye on this space for additional details.
