Nokia, the largest mobile phone maker in the world, and Samsung, the second largest handset vendor globally, are both set to bring to the market a series of tablet PCs, so as to take advantage of this fast growing segment of the mobile market.

However, it appears that, while on the phone area Nokia manages to remain a leader, Samsung would be able to easily overtake it on the tablet PC segment, where the latter's products appeal better to carriers.

Eldar Murtazin, the well known mobile guru, claims that Nokia's slate enjoying little to no love from wireless carriers when it comes to the signing of distribution agreements.

“Samsung will deliver several kind of tablets, most of them with Android 3. Nokia tablet is under question. Operators aren't glad with price,” he stated on Twitter.

For those who might not be familiar with Nokia's plans for the tablet PC market, we should note that the company was rumored a few times before to plan the release of a Nokia Z500 device, which hasn't been announced officially as of now.

The specs list of this device would include a 7 or 9 inches screen, and OpenGL ES 2.0 support for gaming. Most probably, the slate would arrive on shelves running under the MeeGo operating system.

As for Samsung, the company is becoming increasingly popular on the tablet PC market, especially with the release of the high-end Galaxy Tab earlier this year.

It appears that the company would also plans the release of Android 3-based slates, something in line with what we've heard before on the matter.

Previous reports suggested that Samsung would be set to launch both a Galaxy Tab successor with a 7-inch screen, as well as a larger slate, packing a 10.1-inch display, which would better compete against the Apple iPad.

Of course, since other companies too announced plans to bring to the market such devices, it would make sense that Nokia and Samsung would aim at walking this road, even if none of them confirmed officially plans for the aforementioned slates.
