Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced two new handsets with TD-SCDMA connectivity, the Nokia X5 and the Nokia C5. According to the company, the two devices have been developed specifically for China Mobile, the largest carrier in the world by number of subscribers. In addition, Nokia unveiled that the phones would come with the first joint mobile application store, the Mobile Market-Ovi Store.

The new Nokia X5 and C5 are meant to demonstrate Nokia's commitment to the development of TD-SCDMA as a major standard in China. Both are set to be launched at the World Expo Shanghai 2010, where they will be available for consumers to test the features of Nokia TD-SCDMA devices, as well as the rich Internet experience they can offer. The two phones come with support for China Mobile's high-speed 3G (TD-SCDMA) network, while providing a series of pre-loaded apps such as CMCC Music, Mobile Video, or Fetion IM.

Nokia is boosting its leadership in the TD-SCDMA market by strengthening its TD-SCDMA portfolio with products that appeal to a wide range of customers at a range of price points. After the milestone collaboration with China Mobile on the Mobile Market-Ovi Store, we also continue to offer new and stylish devices to satisfy our consumers,” said Chris Leong, senior vice president, Greater China, Korea & Japan.

Nokia X5 is the first TD-SCDMA Symbian based entertainment handset from Nokia. It comes with dedicated music keys, easy access to CMCC music, a 5.0-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and video recording, a 2.4-inch color TFT display that boasts a QVGA resolution, and more. The Nokia X5 is expected to become available for purchase on the Chinese market in the second quarter of the ongoing year in three color versions, black, white, and red.

The Nokia C5 is a stylish device that hits Nokia's TD-SCDMA portfolio at an affordable price tag. It includes a stainless-steel keypad, a compact design, a wide range of features and applications, a 2.4-inch TFT display of QVGA resolution, a 5.0-megapixel photo snapper, fast access to all services and applications on MM-Ovi Store, and more. Set for release in China in the third quarter of the ongoing year, the Nokia C5 will arrive in two color versions, silver and black.
